Colorful Colorado Activities and Destinations

Colorado is filled with so many beautiful towns just waiting for you to visit. Everywhere from Vail to Denver, and even Glenwood Springs, there are always super fun activities to fill your days, however long you are staying. Whether you’re hitting the slopes in Aspen, soaking in the hot springs of Steamboat Springs, or exploring the charming boutiques of Telluride, there’s something for everyone. Outdoor enthusiasts can hike through the stunning trails of Rocky Mountain National Park, while food lovers can indulge in the thriving culinary scene in Boulder. No matter your interests, Colorado’s diverse landscapes and vibrant towns make it an unforgettable destination year-round.

Piney Lake

Whether you are a seasoned traveler to the state, or it is your first time, I will always recommend visiting Piney Lake near Vail. Not only does it offer the most beautiful and scenic views, but there are great activities to explore! Hiking, paddleboarding, kayaking, fishing, or simply sitting by the campfire are all options for your Piney Lake trip.

While Piney Lake makes for a perfect day trip, staying overnight in one of the cozy cabins is a great option if you have the time. For the best experience, plan your visit during the summer, as the ranch is open from late June to September. During this time, you'll witness vibrant wildflowers in full bloom, clear blue skies reflecting off the lake, and the surrounding mountain peaks creating a picture-perfect backdrop.

If you're up for an adventure, consider tackling the scenic Piney River Trail, which winds through alpine meadows and aspen groves, offering incredible photo opportunities along the way. Wildlife enthusiasts may even spot moose, deer, or bald eagles soaring overhead. After a day of exploration, unwind with a hearty meal at the Piney River Ranch restaurant, where you can savor delicious, rustic cuisine with an unbeatable view.

No matter how you choose to experience Piney Lake, it’s a must-visit destination that showcases the best of Colorado’s natural beauty.

Glenwood Springs

As Colorado is filled with trails and amazing scenery, biking is another activity perfect to enjoy. Glenwood Springs is a quaint town with rushing rivers that offers some really nice biking trails.

During my visit with my family, we rented e-bikes, which were incredibly easy to use and made the ride both relaxing and enjoyable. We rode along the Glenwood Springs River Trail, enjoying the scenic path that runs right next to the river. The ride offered stunning views of the surrounding mountains and the river, making it a perfect way to take in the natural beauty of the area. Along the way, we stopped at several picturesque spots for photos and to soak in the tranquil atmosphere. It was a fantastic way to experience the outdoors while staying active and enjoying each other’s company.

I think that Glenwood Springs is such a sweet, quiet town that offers some great food choices their with charming local restaurants. We visited a local brewery that served classic burgers and creative sandwiches, making it a great spot for the whole family. The town’s relaxed vibe and friendly atmosphere really make dining out a pleasure.

Beaver Creek

Colorado thrives in both summer and winter, offering plenty of mountains and ski slopes for all your snow activities. One of my favorite places to ski in all of the US has to be Beaver Creek. The runs are fantastic, and the snow is absolutely unbeatable.

Beaver Creek, in particular, stands out for its world-class ski slopes and upscale vibe. The resort is known for its exceptional service, with heated walkways, ski-in/ski-out access, and even a cozy village with plenty of après-ski options. Whether you're a beginner or an expert, there’s something for everyone here—long, scenic runs, well-maintained trails, and pristine snow. Plus, the resort offers activities like ice skating and snowshoeing, making it a fantastic destination for winter enthusiasts.

In the village, there’s more to enjoy than just skiing—explore the charming shops, dine at local restaurants, or try ice skating. It’s truly a picture-perfect place. However, I’ll admit that the town’s scenic beauty does drive up the prices of shops, restaurants, and activities, making it a less budget-friendly option.

Overall, I think that Colorado is a great destination that blends relaxation with adventure. My favorite activities in Colorado include white water rafting, zip-lining, horseback riding, ATV-ing, and during the winter, skiing, ice skating, snowshoeing, and more. I believe Colorado is the perfect getaway, whether for a long weekend or an extended stay, with endless opportunities to explore.
